Adding insult to injury, Yahoo has a stupid name change
Is it the stupid corporate name change ever? The competition is intense.
Is it the stupid corporate name change ever? The competition is intense.
It might just be the silliest name change in corporate history.
The entity formerly known as Yahoo has been renamed Oath by its new owner, Verizon.
Internet wags were quick to make jokes about swearing an oath at the hapless online service, which in recent times has been best-known for security breaches and spam.
Funnily enough, one of its rivals for a stupid name change is related. While Verizon bought most of Yahoo — sorry, Oath's — operations, the rump of its intellectual property has been placed in a holding company christened Altaba.
But the stupidest name change in modern times still has to be Tronc, from mid-2016 the new name for the Tribune Publishing Group that includes the Chicago Tribune.
I wish I was making that up.
