Auckland Council divided over new oil rules

Auckland Council is sending a message to the Ministry for the Environment it wants the public to be notified of oil exploration activity but not all councillors are happy with that.

Five councillors voted against the submission this morning, saying the council has never debated whether it supports oil drilling at all.

“This process sucks actually and I want the government to hear,” councillor Cathy Casey says.
