Sports body quits Wellington to gain more members

Athletics New Zealand hopes to tap into hundreds of thousands of new members by shifting its focus north.

The national body for track and field, cross country, road running and walking has announced an organisation "realignment" which will mean closing its Wellington head office and shifting instead to Auckland and, in the future, Christchurch.

Chief executive Scott Newman says the organisation will establish a national training centre when it moves into AUT’s $32 million Millennium Institute in Albany.
