Record-breaking audiences at the Sydney Film Festival augurs well for the New Zealand International Film Festival, which begins its national round of fortnightly seasons in Auckland on July 18.
The 60th annual Sydney festival, which kicks off the annual circuit in this part of the world, had a 17% increase in attendances to 143,050. There was also a 22% rise in tickets sold and a 20% growth in revenue.
