Capital Letter: Law Commission prefers its rejected media standards authority to uphold suicide reporting standards

New Zealand’s law on suicide reporting fails the basic tests for good lawmaking but finding a solution is more difficult. The Law Commission has just released its report, Suicide Reporting (NZLC R131, March 2014) following a request, in the context of the current targeted review of the coronial system, for a review of the legislative provisions in the Coroners Act 2006 restricting the reporting of suicide.
