Chris Cairns faces up to seven years if perjury charges stick
Former Black Cap captain Chris Cairns could be imprisoned for up to seven years if convicted of perjury by a London court.
Overnight Mr Cairns appeared in court to face a charge of perjury linked to a libel action he brought in 2012.
He won £90,000 in damages against Indian Premier league founder Lalit Modi who had accused him of match fixing.
However, he was later accused of perjury during that court case and faces a trial next year
He and his former lawyer Andrew Fitch-Holland, who is also up on charges appeared in court yesterday but the pair spoke only to give their names, dates of birth and addresses, the Guardian reports.
The pair were both granted bail and did not talk to media.
