Court restricts TV coverage after "sensationalism" raised in Karam defamation case
Television court coverage of a defamation case pursued by David Bain supporter Joe Karam has been restricted after fears of sensationalism.
Mr Karam claims defamatory statements were made about him on Facebook and the Counterspin website which questioned his motivation for campaigning in support of Mr Bain.
In 1995 Mr Bain was convicted of killing five family members and acquitted in 2009 following a retrial. During that time Mr Karam, a former All Black, became a staunch supporter to clear Mr Bain’s name.
