Crooked accountant struck off

An accountant who embezzled nearly $70,000 from his employer was today struck off by the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountant’s disciplinary tribunal.

Lawrence Peter Ford, a former English police officer, was a provisional member of the institute when he carried out 39 fraudulent transactions against his employer, a Christchurch-based business.

Ford was convicted of the thefts by the Christchurch District Court last year and the tribunal was told today by chairman Jim Hoare he “only narrowly escaped a prison sentence.”
