Cunliffe ally caught misinterpreting stats

One of embattled Labour leader David Cunliffe’s closest supporters has been caught misrepresenting unemployment statistics just weeks from the election.

Last week, Social Development Minister Paula Bennett announced the lowest social welfare numbers in six years.

The minister released a statement, outlining 16,000 fewer people are on welfare “compared to June 2013.”

She has been reported at the end of last year as saying  “on average around 1,500 people a week move off welfare and into work…”
