Dunedin residential rental returns outstrip Auckland
Dunedin remains ahead of Auckland and other centres for residential rental returns.
A calculation of rental returns – average yearly rental income from two and three-bedroom homes divided by sales prices – shows returns for Wellington and Dunedin markets are largely unchanged since 2012.
But Auckland and Christchurch show quite different trends, Crockers researcher Kim Sinclair says.
In Auckland, sales prices are rising faster than rents, depressing returns – the average return dropping 0.6% since 2012.
