End of 'slave labour' could create 2000 more NZ jobs

The passing of the Fisheries Amendment Bill will end “slave labour pay and conditions” in New Zealand waters while generating significant employment, Talleys Group managing director Peter Talley says. 

The bill strengthens the regulation of foreign-owned commercial fishing vessels operating in New Zealand waters by requiring all foreign charter vessels to carry the New Zealand flag from 1 May 2016, and operate under full New Zealand legal jurisdiction.
