Equinox to break ground at Orakei mid-year

Investment Group Equinox plans to break ground at its Orakei Bay Village development this June, following more than eight years of planning.

The “luxury urban village” in Auckland’s Eastern suburbs will hold approximately 100 town houses, 300 apartments and 50 retail shops. Equinox expects to complete the first stage in 2016.

The development over about 4 ha was met with controversy when first proposed in 2005 as Orakei residents had objections to the heights and concerns over traffic.

Eventually Auckland Council gave the developers the green light in April 2011.
