Not a Fair Go – olive oil data inaccurate

TVNZ has been caught out over incorrect coverage of olive oil imports in a consumer issues programme shown last year.

In a just-released decision on the May 2012 airing, the Broadcasting Standards Authority has found the Fair Go report – which researched New Zealand and European olive oil brands – was inaccurate.

Fair Go reported all European brands failed a sensory test and two did not pass a chemical test. The report concluded the best chance of obtaining genuine extra virgin olive oil was to buy local.
