Govt’s Rolls Royce plan for Christchurch tops $1.6b

The cost of the government’s Christchurch central city rebuild is a whopping $1.6 billion.

When the plan was announced last week by Prime Minister John Key and Earthquake Recovery Minister Gerry Brownlee there was no hint about costs.

Any questions on costs were deflected with comments that the plan was a “broad brush”.

But NBR NZPI has been supplied with figures by a reliable source who cannot be identified because of possible repercussions.
