Govt insulation scheme costs jump $2m
The government is dipping into grant money to extend its $347 million home insulation scheme.
Warm Up New Zealand: Heat Smart began in July 2009 as a four-year programme.
The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority-run scheme was extended by a year in May's Budget.
But documents released to NBR ONLINE under the Official Information Act show it will cost an extra $2.2 million to run the scheme – money that could have been used to insulate more houses.
