Govt whistleblower says he was pressured to hand over earthquake contract

A Housing New Zealand whistleblower claims he was ordered to award a multi-million dollar earthquake recovery contract to a Christchurch company "through the back door".

Now, Labour's housing spokeswoman Annette King has called on HNZ to lift what she calls its "veil of secrecy" over the affair.

Englishman Matt Johnson used to head HNZ's Canterbury earthquake asset recovery team, which managed quake-damage repairs, worth hundreds of millions of dollars, to thousands of Christchurch state houses.
