Growth fund returns trail inflation over last five years

The impact of the global financial crisis has meant investors in growth funds have lost ground to the Consumer Price Index over the last five years.New figures from NZX-owned research house FundSource show that on average, $100 placed into a diversified growth fund five years ago would be worth $108.25 today.However, it would have to be worth at least $114.45 to have kept pace with the CPI over that period.But those who invested in growth funds three years ago at the peak of the market pre-crisis have fared even worse.
