How judge 'Red' Ron rules the roost

He may appear avuncular, but Justice Ronald Young, who presided over this week's Maori Council-inspired High Court asset sales challenge, likes a good stoush and is not afraid to come out swinging.

Dubbed years ago as Red Ron, his combative nature was honed as a lawyer in Hamilton where, as a Labour party activist, he helped unseat National MP Ian Shearer in 1984.
