Indirect exposure of Russian ban may be poisoned chalice for NZ

New Zealand dairy and fruit prices are likely to be caught in the crossfire of Russia's year-long ban of food imports from 32 nations.

Last month, Russia banned food imports from countries across Europe, North America and Australia following the toughening of EU and US sanctions on it in the aftermath of pro-Russian separatists shooting down a Malaysian airplane over Ukraine.

Russian president Vladimir Putin imposed a one-year ban in early August on food products from countries that adopted economic sanctions on Russia; a ban that does not include New Zealand.
