Irradiated tomatoes stir labelling debate

The Food and Grocery Council has weighed in on the irradiated tomatoes debate, saying media reports have got it wrong.

Irradiated tomatoes and capsicums from Australia may be available in New Zealand after Food Safety Minister Nikki Kaye makes a decision on a food standards proposal between the two countries next month.

The process of irradiation involves the eradication of bacteria and pests by using gamma rays.
