Supreme Court told judges need to harden up

The Supreme Court has been told judges need to “harden up” and accept criticism.

Rogue website publisher Vince Siemer has taken his uphill fight against the solicitor-general to the Supreme Court.

His appeal is considering whether or not courts have "inherent" power or jurisdiction to suppress judgments in criminal cases.

The American businessman was sentenced in May to six weeks in prison for publishing a suppressed judgment which revealed those charged as a result of the 2007 Urewera raids were to be tried by a judge alone and not a jury.
