Jury-changing lawyer now a judge

Auckland's newest High Court judge Tim Brewer – the territorial army's former most senior officer - played a key role in the introduction of majority verdicts in criminal trials.The retired brigadier and former Crown solicitor in New Plymouth for 22 years, Mr Brewer – then a part-time law commissioner - previously co-ordinated the most comprehensive review of the jury system in New Zealand.The review included a survey of about 50 juries nationwide to assess their prejudice, bias and understanding of evidence and court procedures.
