Key weighs joining fight against ‘brutal’ Islamic State

Prime Minister John Key will not “rush a decision” about sending New Zealand special forces to Iraq, but isn’t ruling the option out.

Mr Key says that, although no formal request has been made for New Zealand’s military assistance in the interdiction campaign the United States is leading against militants in Iraq and Syria, he may still consider sending forces to the region.

He told the NBR ONLINE that sending troops into combat must be done with the full realisation of the possible fatal consequences to Kiwi servicemen and women.
