LED lighting ‘leads to new benefits’

International trials and pilots show the introduction of LED lighting into supermarket has other benefits that just energy saving and lower runnning costs.

Philips says it has developed “light recipes,” which are optimised light spectrums that help make fresh fruit and vegetables look more attractive by bringing out their natural colour. 

These help highlight the freshness of different types of food on display and can also help to reduce light-induced discolouration of foods such as sliced meat, the company says.
