Less construction good but visitors stay for shorter time

Hotel room occupancy is tipped to rise because of a lack of new hotel construction.

Horwath HTL accommodation consultant Terry Ngan says the new Novotel on Customs St, Auckland - an office conversion - has yet to begin, while the 108-room Greenlane hotel has not yet been completed.

The 173-room ex-Westin hotel in the Viaduct Harbour reopened in February as the five-star Sofitel Auckland.

In Rotorua, new supply includes a new 36-unit Quest serviced apartment development being converted from an office building in the central business district.
