Maersk customers brace for price hikes

Shipping giant Maersk's refrigerated container rates are set to rise by about a quarter, testing the margins of some New Zealand exporters.

One major New Zealand freight company says the Danish shipping line's blanket global rate rise is "heavy-handed".

Maersk, the world's biggest shipping line, carrying more than 15% of sea-borne containers, has announced in recent weeks it is raising rates and slowing ship speeds to counter sluggish global trade.
