Hold drunk youth more accountable – industry

Bar owners want more debate around personal accountability and holding intoxicated teens responsible for their actions.

Sixty-nine MPs voted in a conscience vote on Thursday night to keep the alcohol purchasing age at 18, while 53 voted to raise it to age 20 in the second and final round of voting.

The option to raise the off-license buying age to 20 and keep the on-license drinking age at 18 did not receive enough support to make it past the first round.
