New solicitor-general picked

Former Russell McVeagh litigation partner Mike Heron will be confirmed as the new solicitor-general next week –  if he agrees to take the job.

The imminent announcement follows the shock departure today of deputy Solicitor-General Dr Matthew Palmer, who quit after being told last week he would not get the top job.
