Rival banks expect to pick up customers thrown from prancing horse

Rival banks are lining up to snffle National Bank’s customers as ANZ sends the prancing horse to the knacker's yard.

ANZ National will phase out the National brand over the next two years and close 20 branches.

If NBR readers’ responses are anything to go by, ANZ may be about to face an exodus of customers angered by the closure. 

Kiwibank spokesman Bruce Thompson says the state-owned bank is signing up 1000 new customers every week, and he expects ANZ’s decision will prompt more disgruntled customers Kiwibank’s way.
