COMMENTARY: Judge's censorship goes too far

Auckland judge Mary-Beth Sharp refused to let Radio New Zealand record a lawyer's forgery hearing unless the judge herself vetted the intended broadcast before it aired.

In doing so the inferior district court judge – who went on to discharge lawyer Anita Killeen without conviction after the ex-SFO chief prosecutor pleaded guilty to charges of forgery and using a forged document – went well beyond the court's own guidelines.
