OPINION: Supermarket growth has not come at the environment’s expense


Countdown today has almost 100,000sq m more shop space than it did in 2006. That’s 33% growth, driven mainly by 22 new supermarkets in the past five years. 

In 2007, Countdown launched an environmental sustainability programme backed by targets to achieve by 2015. Centred on reducing our carbon footprint, every part of our business has been transformed by this initiative.
