Pioneer Spences’ Sav’ Blanc sparks revolution, saves wine industry

Matua Valley Wines (formally known as Spence Brothers) is celebrating the 40th year since it bottled the first New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc from vines planted in 1969.

Bill and Ross Spence set out to revolutionise the New Zealand wine industry and they have earned international recognition for their pioneering work.

Today, Sauvignon Blanc is the varietal most associated with New Zealand, with export sales of $1.2 billion and holding a leading position in the UK, Australia and US markets.
