Ratepayer-funded overhaul for Auckland eyesore (PHOTOS)
The extremely rundown building on Auckland's Albert St opposite the Stamford Plaza is in for a ratepayer-funded make over, according to mayor Len Brown.
He announced yesterday that the council would be paying for repairing and securing the building, but would not say what the cost was to ratepayers.
The building's owner Stuart Galloway had let it fall into extreme disrepair with abundant graffiti and many broken windows drawing attention to its sad state.
Once the home of Yates seed company, the 1911-built property had been empty for 15 years.
Repair works are expected to be completed before Christmas but there was no plan announced for the building's future long term.
