Sacked bankrupt pie worker gets modest payout

The Employment Relations Authority has awarded a sacked worker $3000 for being unjustifably dismissed.

Rosalyn Mary Brien wanted over $10,000 in lost wages plus compensation for following her dismissal at fast food outlet The Top Shop in Takaka. The shop’s speciality was homemade pies.

Owner Janet Rusbatch said three months into her employment Ms Brien began to make mistakes, which she noted in her diary.

Mrs Rusbatch challenged Ms Brien about these mistakes and Ms Brien acknowledged she had made errors.
