Scurrah cements status as one of Watson's MVPs
After standing down as chief executive of the New Zealand Warriors a year ago, Wayne Scurrah has made himself an increasingly important part of Eric Watson’s expansive empire.
After serving a nine-year stint leading the rugby league club – during which time he was credited with significantly improving revenue and profit growth – Mr Scurrah departed last October to take up the role of chief operating officer in Cullen Investments, the international private investment company founded by Mr Watson two decades ago.
Company Office records show he was appointed to the board of five Watson-related companies in July:
- Batty Road Holdings Ltd
- JP Acquisition Ltd
- Queenstown Lot 14 Ltd
- Valley (NZ) Properties Ltd
- Watson Bloodstock Ltd.
In September he added Soul Bar and Bistro Ltd to his portfolio of directorships in Mr Watson’s companies.
And yesterday he was appointed to a further 20 (yes, twenty) Watson-related directorships, for a current grand total of 26 board positions:
- Cullen Equities Ltd
- Cullen Equities UK Ltd
- Cullen FX Ltd
- Cullen Inc Holdings Ltd
- Cullen Portfolio Ltd
- Calibre Technology Holdings Ltd
- EGB Holdings Ltd
- EJ Group Ltd Director
- Elizabeth Equities Ltd Director
- E W Leasing Ltd
- Forefront Investment Ltd Director
- Hauraki Ltd
- Knockout Boxing Ltd
- Maintenance No.1 Ltd
- Nufsed No.2 Ltd Director
- River Group Ltd
- Serious Holdings Ltd
- SHL Investments Ltd
- Topical Investments Ltd
- Valley (NZ) Ltd 22.
When Mr Scurrah left the Warriors (which is, of course, 50% owned by Mr Watson), he said he expected to “enjoy immensely” Cullen Investments’ entrepreneurial approach and environment.
It seems he is now well and truly hitting his stride.
