S&P rating decision 'unfair' on NZ - economist

The decision by Standard & Poor's to hold New Zealand’s credit rating at present levels and not raise the rating is “a little unfair,” says at least one economist.

The ratings agency affirmed New Zealand’s foreign currency long-term rating at 'AA' and local currency long-term rating at 'AA+'.

The ratings agency recently upgraded Australia’s credit rating, and rival agency Fitch also recently upgraded New Zealand.

“Every negative factor they’ve listed for New Zealand applies to Australia,” TD Securities Annette Beacher told NBR ONLINE.
