Special Report – What Two Judges Did To Earthquake Hero

In one corner is district court judge Nevin Dawson, described by lawyers as a “hardliner” brought in to kick order into a district court jury set-up which plagues many houses.

Judge Dawson ordered a Canterbury earthquake hero to be jailed for ten days the other day for contempt of court over a jury-service stoush.

In the other corner is High Court Justice Graham Lang, described by lawyers as a decent bloke with a fair hand, who – while still finding the rogue juror guilty of contempt – quashed his jail term, and had some interesting things to say about Judge Dawson.
