Secret Treaty deal sets 'dangerous precedent' for land grabs

A “secret” deal which will see a prime piece of waterfront land in Auckland revert to Maori ownership could be the first of many such transactions. 

The deal, which will allow Ngati Whatua to buy 3.2ha of Hauraki Gulf Marine Park designated land at Narrow Neck for possible future commercial development, sets a dangerous precedent, says Devonport-Takapuna local board chairman Chris Darby.
