Turners and Growers fights Zespri ‘monopsony’

Turners and Growers has fired its opening salvo in this week's court battle over Zespri's control of kiwifruit exports outside Australasia, claiming it breaches freedom of association.The High Court at Auckland is to consider the validity of kiwifruit regulations that, according to Turners and Growers, give Zespri a “monopsony” on kiwifruit exports, meaning there's one buyer and many sellers.According to Turners and Growers, this gives Zespri a level of market power that wasn't balanced out by other regulatory measures.
