Turners & Growers to build new Hastings factory
Turners & Growers subsidiary Enzafoods is building a new $4 million factory adjacent to its existing Hastings juice concentrate factory.
Enzafoods chairman Jeff Wesley said the new factory would add between 20-40 new jobs and would focus on value-added products for both New Zealand and export markets.
The first stage of the new plant would be completed by February, in time for the 2011 season with the second stage, effectively doubling factory, would be completed the following year.
Enzafoods also has a plant in Nelson, but Mr Wesley said the Hastings side was chosen because two-thirds of New Zealand’s apples were produced in the region and surety of supply was important.
The new plant will focus on apple puree for baby food, fruit bars and sauces and also diced fruit.
