Why family trust rules need tweaking

The rules around family trusts and how they are affected by divorce need to be clarified through a law change, according to an expert in trusts and estates.Guardian Trust general counsel Chris Kelly said legislation was needed to eliminate confusion and uncertainty surrounding assets held in trusts and how they are to be treated when marriages break up.“The problem is that in New Zealand we're used to clear rules and the rest of the world doesn't have them.”
