Magazines a better bet than newspapers – annual figures

Latest figures show a slight increase in magazine readership, but all publishers are still struggling with falling advertising revenue.

Total magazine circulation is up 2% and readership has increased by 77,000 over the past year, ABC Circulation and Nielsen CMI readership figures show.

Magazine Publishers Association commercial director Katrina Horton says the levels of engagement by readers is high, proving "there's a tangible benefit to advertisers".

However, advertisers may not be as convinced.
