Workers want port jobs
A review of potential employees applying for stevedore positions will be undertaken within weeks according to Allied Workforce (AWF), one of three contracting firms handling job applications for Ports of Auckland.
Ahead of AWF, Drake Recruitment has already begun its interview process this week, sifting through the many applicants for jobs.
AWF is currently taking in CVs from potential port workers applying for stevedoring roles and will be reviewing applicants in about two weeks time.
However, the firm is currently keeping details surrounding pay rates for stevedores confidential until the application process is underway.
The average annual wage for a full time port stevedore ranges around the $90,000 mark, with room for raises to around $122,000 depending on the employee’s current skill-set, according to recent figures published by Ernst & Young.
Mike Huddleston, chief executive officer of Allied Workforce, told NBR Online the number of applicants for Ports of Auckland jobs has grown to “quite a number” following last weeks ‘mass sacking’.
“We’re currently looking at recruiting a cross-section of full time and part time staff,” said Mr Huddleston.
“Applications have risen by quite a number since the positions were listed, especially since they were listed on Trade Me only last Friday.”
Mr Huddleston was reluctant to give away details surrounding pay rates.
Drake Recruitment has also reported a large number of applications.
Spokesman Gary Withers said the number of applications has been overwhelming and they continued to grow.
Pay rates are being kept confidential until a full interview process.
