Wrong tool caused Auckland acid spill
A WorkSafe report into an acid spill in Auckland earlier this year reveals an employee on the Waterview Connection worksite was using the wrong heavy machinery for the job.
The report into the incident, which kept residents indoors after an acid cloud formed over several Auckland suburbs, has been released to NBR ONLINE under the Official Information Act.
A 1000 litre container of hydrochloric acid was pierced by a machine called a telehandler, the report says. A telehander does the job of a forklift but looks like a crane.
