Comcom drops Vodafone Supernet ad complaint

The Commerce Commission has confirmed it will not proceed with Telecom’s complaint against Vodafone over ‘SuperNet’ advertising.
Telecom had already dropped its court action, which objected to Vodafone saying its cable networks in Wellington and Christchurch provided "Ultra Fast Broadband" as well as its claim that it had the "best fixed-line network."
At the time Telecom it said it would go to the Commerce Commission instead.
However, Commerce Commission spokesman Gordon Irving told NBR ONLINE the claim did not pass screening and has been dropped.
Vodafone external affairs director Tom Chignell says he is not surprised by the Commerce Commission’s decision to drop the complaint.
“This campaign was about Vodafone’s fixed and mobile networks being the best, fastest and most reliable.
“We demonstrated overwhelming evidence to back this up."
He says Vodafone has not changed its overall claim that Vodafone's 'SuperNet' is the superior network for landline, mobile, TV and broadband.”
Telecom spokesman Andrew Pirie says the telco is comfortable with the Comcom decision.
He says Vodafone had addressed Telecom’s concerns both before the case had been heard in court or the ComCom could consider the matter.
