Sales made using electronic cards edged up a seasonally adjusted 0.2 percent in May, despite a 5.3 percent fall in fuel retailing.
Sales using electronic cards in core retail, which excludes vehicle-related industries, lifted 1 percent last month from April, and followed a 1.9 percent fall in April, Statistics New Zealand said today.
Transactions in the retail industries rose 0.4 percent, while non-retail industries were up just 0.2 percent.
The actual value of electronic card transactions was up 2.7 percent from a year earlier to $4.8 billion, while actual core retail transactions were up just 0.9 percent from May 2009.
