BlackBerry Suffers Blow as White House Tests Samsung, LG Phones reports the Wall Street Journal. The US President - and his famous, customised "BarakBerry" - has been a high-profile holdout in a world gone Apple and Android. Now, "We can confirm that the White House Communications Agency, consistent with the rest of the Department of Defense, is piloting and using a variety of mobile devices," a Defense Department spokesman tells the Journal.
Ex Microsoft staffer arrested for allegedly stealing Win 8 trade secrets, writes CNET. Alex Kibkalo, a former senior architect at Microsoft who most recently served as a director of product management in 5nine Software (according to his LinkedIn profile), has been arrested for allegedly stealing Windows-related trade secrets while working for Microsoft. A former Microsoft NZ manager quipped on Facebook, "Isn't this like passing on the formula for New Coke?" Microsoft is widely tipped to reintroduce several more traditional elements to Windows 9, expected later this year. Windows 8's sliding tile interface and lack of a a Start button when it was first released alienated some users.
Symantec Shares Slump After CEO Fired, says the Wall Street Journal's Digits blog. "Symantec has struggled to keep pace with new ways to sell software. The company’s share price has dipped about 15% in the last year," it says. The company's official announcement said it was undergoing a CEO transition."
