HOLYOAKE, Noel

After starting an oil-fired heater manufacturing plant in the 1950s, Neil Holyoake sensed the forthcoming oil crisis 20 years later and is now the name behind largest manufacturer of air distribution equipment in the Asia-Pacific.

Holyoake is thought of as a pioneer of New Zealand's heating, ventilation and air conditioning industry, with Holyoake Industries employing more than 350 people in New Zealand and Australia.

The company now operates manufacturing facilities in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide with a sales office located in Perth.

The company has embarked on a programme of diversification and investment in addition to its air distribution interests. It also has business holdings and developments in commercial, industrial and residential property, marine engine importation and sales and is now one of the largest privately owned foresters in New Zealand.

A Rotarian, 86-year-old Holyoake established Rotary's Trees for Survival Project, which has planted almost two million trees since its inception.
