An out-of-control truck ploughed into Continental Car Service's Porsche dealership in Newmarket, Auckland, this afternoon.

Passersby were quick to post photos of the incident to Twitter (right).

The incident reportedly involved a truck and trailer swerving to avoid a people mover executing a U-turn, then spun out of control and hit a second truck that was unloading a Porshe at the luxury car yard.

NBR ONLINE understands seven vehicles were damaged in the smash.

Continental Car Services did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

A reported 10 police cars, four fire engines, multiple ambulances and a crowd of spectators added to the drama, with one witness saying the area looked like the scene of a major car crash.

At least one person was initially trapped inside a vehicle after the midday accident.

Police told NBR three people were taken to hospital with "moderate injuries" – the driver of the truck-and-trailer, the driver of the people mover and the passenger in the people mover.

Great South Rd was shut early afternoon, causing traffic snarls.

Police said the road has been reopened.
