Alan Bollard a safe pair of hands in troubled times

Business and farming leaders are praising retiring Reserve Bank governor Dr Alan Bollard as a safe pair of hands who safely steered New Zealand through one of the most turbulent economic times in its history.

But they appear to be hedging their bets on his successor, New Zealander Graeme Wheeler, a former deputy secretary of Treasury and managing director of operations for the World Bank.

Despite his relatively high profile, those spoken to by NBR ONLINE seemed unsure just what he would bring to the governor’s job, a position occupied by Dr Bollard for the last decade.
